Einkaufen in Österreich

Also merke: Bei Kässpätzle immer viiiiieeeeel Käse.

In our area it is normal to cross the border to fill up your tank. In Austria to be precise. For it is not far and you get the fuel at a lower price. And for some time, there is a supermarket across the street of the filling station. It stands to reason to run your errands there as well! Especially since there are things, you don’t get in Germany.

For example »räß« cheese. »Räß« means: strong flavor, very mature as the packaging indicates. You can also say: smelly. But räß cheese is THE secret to the best cheese spaetzle! Together with Emmenthal and mountain cheese it is the perfect mixture. You just mustn’t make the mistake of being too sparing on cheese. I always think, ok, that’s a lot of cheese, but in the end it is still too little. Remember: If you make cheese spaetzle use loooooooooooots of cheese! And then some.

The other thing we buy in Austria is mustard from Lustenau. The best mustard by far! In our fridge now in the handy 1 kilo bottle. (Which is huge for our means!)

And what do you buy when you are abroad?
